Table tops and shelves
How do I measure for a replacement motorhome table top?
Measure your existing top at its longest and widest points, in millimetres. Check the corners too: if they're rounded, compare them with a 25mm, 50mm or 75mm radius. If you don't have the old top, measure the space it needs to fit and allow a little clearance around seats, walls and doors. If you're not sure, send us a photo before ordering. Our step by step measuring guide goes through it in detail.
What are your table tops and shelves made from?
A solid core of lightweight poplar plywood, faced with high pressure laminate on both sides and edged all round in ABS. Our thinner 15mm boards use birch ply for strength. It's lighter than MDF or chipboard, doesn't swell in the damp, and holds screws properly. There's more in our article on why we use the materials we use.
Should I choose a 19mm or 27mm table top?
19mm is lighter and fine for smaller tops and shelves. 27mm is sturdier and the usual choice for a main motorhome dining table, especially a bigger one. Our folding tops are 27mm and our tri-fold tops 19mm.
Should I choose a folding or a tri-fold table top?
A folding top is two equal leaves that fold in half, and suits a full size table you sometimes want smaller. A tri-fold is a centre panel with a leaf either side, and folds down to the size of the centre panel, so it suits a table that needs to pack away small. See folding or tri-fold: which should I choose?
Can I match the laminate and edging to my interior?
Yes. You choose the surface laminate and the edging colour separately. Our standard colours are pressed ready to cut and are the best value. We can also press almost any laminate from the Egger, Altofina and Formica ranges specially for you, which adds a little to the price and the lead time. Our guide on matching your interior has tips for getting it right.
Can you make a shape or size that isn't on the website?
Usually, yes. Cut-outs for a leg or pillar, unusual shapes and one-off sizes are all things we do regularly, as everything is cut on our CNC. Add a note when you order, or get in touch first and we'll talk it through.
Do you offer CNC cutting services?
We don't do one-off sheet cutting or cut-to-order jobs. Our CNC is used to make our own table tops, shelves and kits. We're happy to talk about regular batch work for trade customers, so if that's you, email support@chippysworkshop.co.uk with what you need and roughly how often.
Shelf kits
Do you make shelf kits for my motorhome?
We currently make kits for the Bürstner Lyseo (690G, T727G and 2023 onwards), Adria Compact DL, Pilote 696 and 740, Niesmann + Bischoff Arto and Flair, Coachman Travel Master 545 and 565 and the Benimar 294, plus a folding table top for the Chausson X550 and X650. See all our motorhome shelf kits. If yours isn't listed, tell us what you've got and we'll see what we can do.
Which Bürstner Lyseo shelf kit do I need?
Bürstner changed the seat base during 2023. Pull the back cushion forward and look at the frame under the headrest: flat across the top needs our standard kit, and a raised block in the middle needs our 2023 onwards kit. Check the frame rather than the year. There's more in which Lyseo kit fits my van?
Do your shelves need drilling into my van?
Most of our kits clamp to your existing furniture using adjustable Häfele brackets, so there's no drilling and nothing permanent. They come off easily, and your van goes back to how it left the factory. See how to fit a motorhome shelf without drilling.
Can I leave things on the shelf while I'm driving?
No. Our shelves are for lightweight items while you're parked. Clear the shelf or take it off before you travel, and please don't use it as a step or a grab handle. See our Fitting & Safe Use page.
Table legs
Which table leg do I need for my motorhome?
For a medium sized table, the ITC Sequoia or Redwood. Choose Sequoia if you need a very low floor base, or Redwood for quick one handed setup. For a large or heavy table, the Cypress is the strongest. For a wall mounted table, the MOD, and for L shaped seating, the MOD Cypress hybrid. Our full guide explains it: which table leg do I need?
Can I use my motorhome table outside?
Yes, with our Radix tripod. It takes your Sequoia, Cypress or Redwood leg and turns it into a freestanding table for the awning or the campsite, and it folds flat for storage. See how to use your table outside.
What is the Radix tripod?
The Radix is our own design. It turns a Sequoia, Cypress or Redwood table leg into a freestanding table, so you can use it in the awning, on the campsite, or inside the van where you'd rather not fit a floor base. It adds 93mm to the table height and folds flat for storage.
