How to measure for a replacement motorhome table top
The quick answer: measure your existing top at its longest and widest points in millimetres, check the corner radius, decide on the thickness, and make sure the new size clears your seats, walls and doors. If you don't have the old top, measure the space and allow a little clearance all round.
What you need
A tape measure, a ruler or straight edge, a pencil and paper, and ideally a second pair of hands for longer tops.
Step 1: measure the length and width
Measure your existing top at its longest point and its widest point, edge to edge, in millimetres. Measure across the middle as well as near the ends, as older tops aren't always perfectly square. If yours is tapered or shaped, take the biggest measurement each way and add a note or a sketch when you order.
Step 2: check the corners
Most motorhome tables have rounded corners. To find the radius, lay a ruler along one straight edge and mark where the curve starts, then do the same on the other edge. Measure from either mark to the point where the two straight edges would meet. That distance is the radius. Our table tops come with a 25mm, 50mm or 75mm radius, so pick the closest.
Step 3: choose the thickness
We make table tops in 19mm and 27mm. 27mm is the usual choice for a main dining table and feels more solid. 19mm is lighter, which suits smaller tops, or a table you're lifting on and off a lot.
Step 4: check the clearances
Before you order, check the new size works in the van. Can you get in and out of the seats with it in place? Does it clear the walls, blinds, windows and any door that swings nearby? If the table drops down to make a bed, check it still sits where it needs to. It's also worth noting where your table connector sits underneath, so you can fit it back in the same place.
What if I don't have the old table top?
Measure the space instead: the distance between the seats, and from the wall to where you want the table to finish. Allow a little clearance all round so it's easy to use. If you're not sure, cut a piece of cardboard to the size and try it in the van first. You're welcome to send us the cardboard template, too.
Measuring for a folding or tri-fold top
For a folding table top, give us the size opened out and we'll make it as two equal leaves, folding across the width. For a tri-fold top, measure the centre panel: each leaf is half the centre width, so the whole thing folds down to the size of the centre panel.
What sizes can you make?
Our standard table tops can be made from 250mm up to 2440mm long and from 100mm up to 1220mm wide, cut on our CNC to the millimetre. Cut-outs, unusual shapes and one-off designs are fine too, just tell us in the notes.
Still not sure?
Send us a photo of your table with your measurements, or ring us on 01823 740022, and we'll check it with you before anything is made. Every top is made to your measurements, so it's worth getting right.
When you're ready, enter your sizes on our custom table top page and you'll see the price straight away.
